Summers End..

It was late afternoon when I caught this American Goldfinch sitting quietly just watching over the meadow..the days are getting shorter, nature is on the move and we all watch as another summer comes to an end.
...this was an unusually quiet afternoon at the park...I don't know why I looked up but when I did, I caught sight of this Black-billed Cuckoo...Wow! I felt pretty lucky just to get a few shots of him..before he flew to another tree.. deeper into the woods. He is one of those elusive birds..that I would hear but not see.

Fruit is in abundance now..berries everywhere! I just happen to see this bird fly down from a nearby tree to eat some of these berries. I don't know why but Cedar Wax Wings seem to be one of my favorite birds to watch..their plumage always reminds me of silk..and when they fly..you see all those vibrant colors. So many different colors all on one bird!!

I came across this little guy near the end of my walk. He was quite actively flitting from one branch to another but I'm still not sure what he is...?? The lighting at the end of an afternoon can be really tricky and but it looks like his belly color has a creamy yellow look to it. She has now been identified as a female redstart! Thank u Dawn!

..and while I was over-haul'en my blogger look and beginning to edit my afternoon photos, this little guy flies right up to my study window..lucky my camera was right next to me and I got a few shots of him...looking in..maybe he came to wish me a Happy Bloggeranniversary! It was about this time last year that I published my first post! Whatever the reason, it was a nice way to end the afternoon!

OHHHH...I like your "New Look." I especially like those butterfly pictures.

And, lucky you to catch that hummingbird looking at you. So often I have stood at my kitchen window and one has flown up and looked me in the eye, but my camera is never right there when it happens....someday.

I'm glad the hummingbird dropped by to wish you a happy bloggeranniversary. I suspect he also wanted to get a look at the wonderful pictures you took earlier in the day. You've got a great new look.

Happy Blogaversary, Tina.... I started not long after you---and you were one of my first blog friends, you and Dave. How special is that!!!!!

Your birds are incredible---especially that little hummer who came to congratulate you.

I also love Cedar Waxwings.. Don't know what your mystery bird is. He's a cutie though. Hope you find out.

Hugs,
Betsy

Hi Tina,
Wow what a post!! I'm impressed by the humming and the cedar waxing... I love these two birds but have only see them through your post! Well done, you have a very nice set of pictures there... A pity that we don't share these species, but it is nice to discover them here. Keep going!

Hi Tina. You are definitely seeing more birds than me even if they are somewhat elusive. Great capture of the visiting Hummer.

Beautiful new look for your year old blog Tina. I think I've been with you since near or at the beginning and more than happy to stick with you girl!
Great shots and love that new header too.
I wish I could help with the mystery bird. Maybe a vireo or warbler. That's a tough one. Maybe Barb knows!! If you don't have any luck I might be able to ask someone.

I love Cedar Waxwings too and have heard them a lot lately devouring the fruit remaining in our yard. I love their little metallic calls they make back and forth to each other as they are feeding. Sweet little hummer photo...I love those birds too!!

Your photo down a ways certainly appears to be a redstart, but you're right about how tricky it can be with lighting, angle, etc. - female or juvenile. But, I think you meant to say that the first bird looking over the meadow is a goldfinch. Around my home they are molting into their drab winter plumage.

Chris P,
Thank you for your comment..I do believe you are correct in identifying this little bird as an American Goldfinch and not a Am.Redstart. Thank you for bringing this to my attention!!
