Tumbling into Fall

There's not much to see and photograph these days as far as migrating song birds go...the weather has been very windy and cool...but it's still nice to get out and walk. We are quickly tumbling into fall-like weather and temps. and everyone is digging out their favorite sweaters and coats. During my walk this morning I found this Lesser Yellowlegs foraging the shallow waters near a wooded swamp. Lesser Yellowlegs are frequent visitors to this area. A very pretty wader..with a long and pointed bill...his marking were very pretty but it was those yellow legs reflecting in the water that made me take his picture.

Another lone visitor who allowed me to capture a couple photos of her was this Black-Throated Green Warbler. Fast and furious was a better description of her flying abilities. She was hungry and apparently saw something that caught her eye!

Thank goodness she decided to stop and enjoy her catch..or I would have only seen a glimpse of her as she flitted away! Oh well, it was a nice walk. Good for the heart as well as the soul.
Tomorrow the winds are suppose to calm down a bit..hopefully I can get back out to see what other nature treats October will bring.

Hi Tina, I wondered where you were. Thought you might have been on another trip. Your pictures--as usual--are great. I love those little warblers that you see. SO cute!!!!

I had some bad news over the weekend. My sweet brother died. I wrote a blog about him on Saturday.
Hugs,
Betsy

Great pictures. In the first one it's hard to see where the real ones end and the reflection begins.

I really liked that first yellowlegs picture, and the little warbler is sweet.

You are right....this seems to be a slow time for birds..not much action.

Hi Tina,
I guess we are all thinking about the same thing... Now we have to wait for vagrants to get some pictures. Although for you the reflection shot of the lesser yellowleg is splendid!! I guess. like nature, we have to be patient and enjoy the changes in the season :-)
At least for me, it is gonna be easy to sleep now as it is gonna be dark all the time!

Oh! I love your Lesser Yellowlegs photo...when I enlarged it, the reflection really came to life--beautiful! And....I love the Black-throated Green Warblers. This summer I went to Hocking Hills in Ohio, which has deep, hemlock-covered ravines like its nesting grounds up north. The cooler temps there have convinced the Black-throated Greens it's okay to nest in Ohio. I loved seeing the "migrant" in summer. Down in Cincy, we only get him as he migrates through. We both saw Magnolia's on the same day. I LOVE their fall plumage...more than their spring plumage...

Wonderful shot of the lesser yellowlegs! Nice! And how nice that you saw the warbler too...all I see these days are the usual sparrows and finches at our feeder.

The first picture of the Lesser Yellowleg is absolutely beautiful. I'm glad you got it and shared it with us. It's cool and windy here today and we're being threatened with rain.

Your photos of the LEYE are unusual - i.e., the reflection in water, but particularly, the green & yellow patterns captured in the water.

Yes indeed very nice legs on that wader. You sure are having good luck with those (according to Petersons Guide) "confusing fall warblers. I have seen any in a long time although the shore birds were good in B.C. on our trip.

Hi, nice photos. That first little
warbler has the appearance of an
eyering, yellow wash down the
breast with a hint of a brownish
band across it, and it does not
have any stripes going down the
sides. This bird looks more like
a Northern Parula to me. I think
you have two different birds here.
