THE NUT HACK, aka... THE NUTHATCH

Even though this little White-breasted nuthatch is familiar with the idea of running down from the top of the tree looking for insects that the woodpeckers didn't find as they went up the tree....he has had to readjust his behavior when it comes to eating from our feeders. Today, he finds he must be patient and wait...
and wait...
until he feels it is safe to jump down onto that feeder...

right-side-up and pick that one perfect seed to hack! ahhhh,.. success!

Fun pictures and story! Still haven't seen any nuthatches at our place in a long time, but we don't have any good pine trees around either. Send 'em on down to NC, Tina!

Ruth, yes you're right they are... I was reading about them before I did my post...was wondering how they got their name. Nut hack made more sense but I guess over the years they just became known as nuthatches! Thanks for stopping by.
