The squeaky toy...

He sat in our oak tree, which is about 25 feet from our kitchen window...a very pretty guy!
Quite patient...maybe he was just enjoying our 50 degree temps we had today but I actually think he was watching the dog play with a squeaky toy. It would have been so interesting to 'really' know what was going on in his little mind.

He kept an eye on the dog as it ran around the yard..carrying and squeaking the ball!!
At one point I thought maybe he might join in on the fun game, as the dog was totally playing alone... Thank goodness our dog is 48 pounds and not a tiny dog!!!!!
The dog tossed the ball into the air and it rolled under the oak tree...

and then it rolled behind the oak tree...

Then he noticed me clicking away through the open kitchen window...
He immediately straightened his pose, gave me a serious look, that said, ahem... I really wasn't interested in the squeaky toy or furry creature at all!!
and the best part was that the furry creature with the squeaky toy was clueless that he was being watched from far above.

Cute pictures, Tina. Do hawks ever eat other things like squirrels or DOGS????? I hope not!!!

We must have a hawk lurking around our feeders since sometimes our birds will ALL disappear like crazy.

Love the pictures of the hawk watching that squeeky ball!!! Cute.

Hugs,
Betsy

What a great post! Who knew the cooper would just watch instead of fleeing!

If you coat the squeaky toy with peanut butter, then the squirrels will play with it...then the very menacing-looking, orange-eyed Cooper's hawk would be very interested...hmmmm...do mockingbirds like squeaky peanut butter toys? Super pictures, Tina!

Gail, yep those eyes have it!

Shelley, I wondered if he was looking for the source of that squeak!!

Betsy, I had a friend who had her ferret taken by a hawk..right off her patio!

Dawn, my dog is a big baby...he would run like the wind if that hawk came near him!! lol

Ruth Thanks! u too!

George, Thank you very much!

Carolyn, Thanks

Chris..not sure what he was thinking..just didn't want him to fly at the dog!!

Andy, thank you!

Kallen, Glad you liked the photos..it was fun to have him so close and posing!! ha ha

Hannibal, So glad all he did do was watch! Didn't think he would fly at the dog..but I didn't let it go on too long!

Barb, Gee, maybe they do get lonely..have to put the ball outside and see if he approaches... without the dog attached to it!

Dave, where do you get these great ideas Mr. Heiser??.. now how do I get that peanut butter on that mocker?? ha ha

Jane, thanks for stopping by, I think I have a pet hawk these days..he is here everyday, not so much sitting in my closest tree but in the yard somewhere...looking?? very hopeful..he sat on my deck this morning having cleared all the feeders...watching the yews and darn when he finally decided to walk under the yews a small bird did fly out!! He missed it but he knew!!

Perfect series of photos. I like the way the Coopers Hawk is turned its head to follow the dog playing around with the ball. Nice.

Beautiful series Tina. The one where he's looking directly at you gives a near eye-level perspective which is captivating.
